Rating: - a great combo
bought this bit of kit primarily as a sat nav and initially had problems with it which were solved by updating the tom tom software. as a sat nav it has proven to be better than alot of dedicated sat navs owned by friends.
the palm is easy to set up for wi-fi browsing and for pairing with mobile phones.
this was my first pda and it has been a doddle to set up and use.
Rating: - Didn't Work Out of the Box
There were problems with the software which TomTom customer services seem to have been very uninterested in resolving other than for me to send back the items.
Tom Tom QA is worse than useless since the item didn't work out of the box or have a complete label on the CD.
Since I had started using the Palm TX and had spent some time setting it up, I was naturally reluctant to spend more time clearing the data off it, repackage it, send it back and then set up a replacement. ... Read More
Rating: - Natty Little System
Easy to set up and works well. Very nice and simple user interface. Directions are clear and precise, for example, giving an instruction 200 yds or so ahead of a turn then repeating it at the point it wants you to make the turn. I was worried about the speaker volume but the TX speaker is fine.

Don't you just love it when Things Just Work? My first experience with GPS systems was with a Palm E2 and Via Michelin software which caused no end of grief, so I have just replaced it with the Palm TX and Tom Tom GPS solution and boy what a difference. The installation is a breeze, the interface is beautifully intuitive and most of all getting a GPS signal is automatic - something with which I had no end of grief with the E2 and Via Michelin.
Look no further this is what GPS should be like!
Rating: - Palm TX PDA OK, but pity the GPS doesn't work
I purchased a Palm TX with TomTom 5 GPS nav system for my mother's Christmas present. Very embarrassing, as despite the Palm TX being a great PDA, the PalmOne GPS receiver is not good. It often takes 30 mins to find enough satellites and then regularly gets confused en route.
I've had to return the whole package and am now looking for a more reliable GPS (will probably try TomTom). It's a shame the manufacturers haven't admitted the fault, as several reviewers have clearly experienced the same ... Read More
